1.3.5.2.2.3.9.3.2  ~~  George William Ernest Alchin

George (who also seems to have been known as Ernest by the family) was born at Stepney in mid 1880 (Stepney 1880 June qtr Volume 1c Page 462). At the time of the census of the following year, George was 11 months old and he was living with his family at 121 White Horse Street, Ratcliffe.

The 1891 census records that the school boy was living with his family at 39 Guildford Road, Bromley. The 1901 census records that George was employed as an architect's clerk. He was unmarried and he was living with his parents at 98 Thurston Road, West Ham.

George migrated to Canada in 1912. He arrived at Portland, Maine in January 1912 on board SS 'Canada' on his way to Longley, British Columbia.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.3.3  ~~  Florence Edith Alchin

Florence was born at 24 Coutts Road, Mile End on 16th June 1882 (Mile End 1882 September qtr Volume 1c Page 509). The 1891 census records that the school girl was living with her family at 39 Guildford Road, Bromley. The 1901 census records that Florence was a dressmaker and she was living with her parents at 98 Thurston Road, West Ham.

Florence married William Burgess and they had at least one child – Florence.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.3.4  ~~  Lilian Annis Alchin

Lilian was born at 12 Rowsell Street, Mile End on 17th March 1884 (Mile End 1884 March qtr Volume 1c Page 536). The 1891 census records that the school girl was living with her family at 39 Guildford Road, Bromley. The 1901 census records that she was a dress maker and she was living with her parents at 98 Thurston Road, West Ham.

Lilian married Louis Herbert Luton at St John's church, Stratford on 29th June 1905 (West Ham 1905 June qtr Volume 4a Page 230); he was born at 61 Rathbone Street, Plaistow on 7th November 1881 the son of George Daniel Luton and Mary Ann Nichol. The witnesses were Albert Henry Gibson and Lilian Maud Rowe.

The 1901 census records that Louis was a shirt maker and he was living with his parents at 256 High Street, Poplar. At the time of his marriage Louis was a labourer living at 125 Angel Lane, Stratford. Louis and Lilian had seven children – Ivy (1906), Edward (1908), Phyllis (1909), Ronald (1912), Alfred (1915), Iris (1920) and Eileen (1923).

Louis enlisted in the British Army during World War One and he was assigned to the Army Service Corps with the regimental number TH219424. He reached the rank of Lance Corporal. Louis died at 59 St James Street, Walthamstow from gas poisoning on 6th June 1932. At the time of his death he was a retail confectionery manager. Lilian subsequently married Robert A. Mitchell in 1940.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.3.4.1  ~~  Ivy Lilian Luton

Ivy was born in London on 6th May 1906 (West Ham 1906 June qtr Volume 4a Page 28). She married Horace Lilly at West Ham in 1931. They had at least one child – Tamara.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.3.4.2  ~~  Edward Louis Stockwell Luton

Edward was born at 256 East India Dock Road, London on 5th April 1908 (Poplar 1908 June qtr Volume 1c Page 596). He married Sophie E. Stock at West Ham in 1934. Edward and Sophie had at least two children – Josette and Dorothy. Edward subsequently married Irene Annie (her surname is unknown) in 1978; she was born on 8th March 1923.

Edward died at Peterborough in 1980 aged 72 years. Irene died at Peterborough in 1983 aged 60 years.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.3.4.3  ~~  Phyllis Irene Luton

Phyllis was born in London on 19th December 1909 (Poplar 1909 December qtr Volume 1c Page 568). She died in 1916 aged 6 years.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.3.4.4  ~~  Ronald Herbert Luton

Ronald was born at Poplar on 4th August 1912. He married Maud Elizabeth Keighley in 1937; she was born at West Ham on 14th June 1919. Ronald and Maud had at least one child – Barbara. Robert died at Hillingdon, Middlesex in 1972 aged 60 years. Maud died at Ealing in 1988 aged 68 years.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.3.4.5  ~~  Alfred Ernest Luton

Alfred was born at West Ham on 25th April 1915. He married Vera Ethel Phillips in 1940; she was born at Leyton in 1917. Alfred and Vera had at least three children – Pamela, Phillip and Geoffrey. Ronald died at Thundersley, Essex in 1998 aged 83 years.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.3.4.6  ~~  Iris Victorine Luton

Iris was born at West Ham on 31st May 1920. She married George F. Lane in 1939 (Essex SW 1939 September qtr Volume 4a Page *). George and Iris had at least one child – Terence.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.3.4.7  ~~  Eileen Mary Luton

Eileen was born at West Ham in 1923. She married Bernard F. Moss in 1947; he was born at Hackney in 1923. Bernard and Eileen had at least one child – Janet.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.3.5  ~~  Ada Agnes Maria Alchin

Ada was born at 12 Rowsell Street, Mile End on 5th August 1886 (Mile End 1886 September qtr Volume 1c Page 540). The 1901 census records that she was living with her parents at 98 Thurston Road, West Ham. Ada married Frank George Harrison in 1912 (West Ham 1912 June qtr Volume 4a Page 40).

Frank and Ada had two children – Ruby and Douglas.

Ruby was born in the period 1912 – 1920.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.3.5.2  ~~  Douglas F. Harrison

Douglas was born in the period 1912 – 1920. He married Beryl Birch in Northumberland in 1941.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.3.6  ~~  Ruby Isabel L Alchin

Ruby was born at Poplar in London's East End in 1893 (Poplar 1893 March qtr Volume 1c Page 674). The 1901 census records that the school girl was living with her family at 98 Thurston Road, West Ham. Ruby married Frederick Abbott.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.3.7  ~~  Christopher Edward Alchin

Christopher was born at Poplar in 1895 (Poplar 1895 March qtr Volume 1c Page 663). Christopher died of diphtheria in 1899 aged only 4 years (West Ham 1899 December qtr Volume 4a Page 37).

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.4  ~~  Richard John Alchin

Richard was born in early 1853 (Malling 1853 March qtr Volume 2a Page 317). He was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 17th April 1853. Richard is not recorded with the rest of his family in the 1871 census. Richard married Eliza Harrington; she was born at Canning Town in London in 1865.

Richard and Elizabeth had at least six children – William (1885), Hettie (1887), Frances (1891), Alice (1892), Annie (1894) and Mabel (1897). The 1891 census records that Richard was employed as a general labourer. he and his wife and their three children were living at 128 Leyes Road, West Ham.

The 1901 census records that Richard was employed as a general labourer. He and his family were living in outer London at 35 Bonny Downs Road, East Ham. Visiting the family that night was 20 year old Lizzie Smith, a tent machinist of Plaistow in Essex. Richard died in London in 1904 aged 51 years (West Ham 1904 September qtr Volume 4a Page 236).

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.4.1  ~~  William S. Alchin

William was born at Woolwich in 1885. The 1891 census records that the school boy was living with his family at 128 Leyes Road, West Ham. The 1901 census records that William was living with his parents at 35 Bonny Downs Road, East Ham.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.4.2  ~~  Henrietta Alchin

Henrietta (Hettie) was born at Woolwich in 1887. The 1891 census records that the young girl was living with her family at 128 Leyes Road, West Ham. The 1901 census records that Hettie was living with her parents at 35 Bonny Downs Road, East Ham.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.4.3  ~~  Frances Elizabeth Alchin

Frances was born at West Ham in late 1890 (West Ham 1891 March qtr Volume 4a Page 62). The 1891 census records that the 5 month old infant was living with her family at 128 Leyes Road, West Ham. Frances died later the same year aged only several months (West Ham 1891 December qtr Volume 4a Page 63).

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.4.4  ~~  Alice Maud Alchin

Alice was born at West Ham in 1892 (West Ham 1892 December qtr Volume 4a Page 127). The 1901 census records that Alice was living with her parents at 35 Bonny Downs Road, East Ham.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.4.5  ~~  Annie Augusta Alchin

Annie was born at East Ham in 1894 (West Ham 1894 September qtr Volume 4a Page 214). The 1901 census records that Annie was living with her parents at 35 Bonny Downs Road, East Ham.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.4.6  ~~  Mabel Mary Alchin

Mabel was born at East Ham in 1897 (West Ham 1897 June qtr Volume 4a Page 268). The 1901 census records that Mabel was living with her parents at 35 Bonny Downs Road, East Ham. She married Charles Edward Harrington; he was born at North Woolwich in 1893. Charles and Mabel had at least one child – Margaret (1922).

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.4.6.1  ~~  Margaret Harrington

Margaret was born at East Ham in 1922. She married Edward Windle Marsh in 1947; he was born at Scarborough, Yorkshire in 1923. Edward and Margaret had at least one child – Patricia.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.5  ~~  Edwin Alfred Alchin

Edwin was born at New Hithe on 20th December 1854 (Malling 1855 March qtr Volume 2a Page 311) and he was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 28th January 1855. The 1871 census records that Edwin was a labourer and he was living with his widowed mother at Hamhill, Birling. The 1881 census records that Edwin was employed as a general labourer and he was boarding at Snodland.

Edwin married Agnes Jane McAlpin at Birling on 12th July 1885 (Malling 1885 September qtr Volume 2a Page 903); she was born at Cape Town, South Africa in about 1858 and she was the daughter of Robert McAlpin a Sergeant in the Army. The witnesses to their wedding were James and Ann Maria Alchin (his brother and sister).

The 1891 census records that Alfred was a bricklayer and he and his wife were living alone at 8 Margaret Street, Rochester. The 1901 census records that Edwin was employed as a brick layer. He and his wife were living at 2 Mitre Road, Rochester. Visiting them at the time of the census was 23 year old Maria (Mollie) Richardson of Retford, Nottinghamshire. Edwin and Jane do not appear to have had any surviving children.

Agnes died in 1902 aged 47 years (Medway 1902 December qtr Volume 2a Page 388). Edwin subsequently married Mollie Richardson in 1903 (Malling 1903 September qtr Volume 2a Page 1495). Edwin and Mollie had  eight children – Jack (1903), Ivy (1905), Arthur (1906), Dora (1907), Sidney, Eva (1914), Hilda and Leonard (1918). The children were probably all born at Rochester.

Edwin died in 1937 aged 82 years (Maidstone 1937 June qtr Volume 2a Page 1148). Mollie may have died in 1938 aged 60 years (Bromley 1938 June qtr Volume 2a Page 788).

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.5.1  ~~  Jack Alchin

Jack was born in 1903 or 1904. He died in July 1924 aged 20 years.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.5.2  ~~  Ivy Agnes Alchin

Ivy was born in 1905 (Medway 1905 June qtr Volume 2a Page 699). Ivy never married and she died in her late 70's.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.5.3  ~~  Arthur John Alchin

Arthur was born in 1906 (Medway 1906 June qtr Volume 2a Page 759). He married Alice (her surname is presently unknown) and they had three children – Eleanor, Frank and Gerald.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.5.4  ~~  Dora Alchin

Dora was born in 1907 (Medway 1907 June qtr Volume 2a Page 780). She married Edward Tapsell and they had two children – Peter and Diana.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.5.5  ~~  Sidney Alchin

Sidney was probably born between 1910 and 1912. He married Jean Harris. They did not have any children.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.5.6  ~~  Eva Mary Alchin

Eva was born on 17th October 1914, probably at Rochester. She married William Johnstone on 26th December 1935 and they had four children – Ian, Anne (who migrated to America), Mary and Shelagh. Eva died on 26th October 1985 aged 71 years.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.5.7  ~~  Hilda Alchin

Hilda was probably born around 1916. She married Percival Sancto and they had one child – Jennifer.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.5.8  ~~  Leonard T. Alchin

Leonard was born in late 1917 or early 1918. He died in 1918 when he was still only a baby (Medway 1918 March qtr Volume 2a Page 1057).

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.6  ~~  James Alchin

James was born at West Malling in late 1856 (Malling 1857 March qtr Volume 2a Page 343) and he was baptised at St Mary's church, West Malling on 24th December 1856. The 1871 census records that James was working as a labourer and he was living with his widowed mother at Hamhill, Bilring.

The 1881 census records that James was employed as a bricklayer and he was lodging at Hamhill, Birling with Ellen West, a 35 year old widow. He was a witness at his brothers wedding in July 1885. James married Ada Stevens later that year (Medway 1885 December qtr Volume 2a Page 922). Ada was born at Dartford in 1868. James and Ada had at least two children – Leonard (1890) and Ivy (1893).

The 1901 census records that James was employed as a bricklayer. He and his wife and their two children were living at 35 Railway Street, Northfleet. James may have died in 1920 aged '59' years (Strood 1920 June qtr Volume 2a Page 694). Ada died in 1936 aged 67 years (Strood 1936 December qtr Volume 2a Page 965).

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.6.1  ~~  Leonard James Alchin

Leonard was born at Dartford in 1890 (Dartford 1890 December qtr Volume 2a Page 466). The 1901 census records that the school boy was living with his parents at 35 Railway Street, Northfleet. Leonard served during World War One as a Private in the Staffordshire Yeomanry (#300619).

Leonard married Edith A Durston in 1914 (West Ham 1914 March qtr Volume 4a Page 102). Leonard died in 1956 aged 65 years (Dartford 1956 June qtr Volume 5b Page 349).

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.6.2  ~~  Ivy Violet Alchin

Ivy was born at Northfleet in 1893 (Strood 1893 September qtr Volume 2a Page 542). The 1901 census records that the school girl was living with her family at 35 Railway Street, Northfleet.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.7  ~~  Emily Mary Alchin

Emily was born at Hamhill in 1858 (Malling 1858 December qtr Volume 2a Page 338) and she was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 27th December 1858. The 1871 census records that Emily was a school girl and she was living with her widowed mother at Hamhill, Birling.

Emily had a natural born child – Bertram (1880). The 1881 census records that Emily and her baby son were living at Snodland. Emily married a man who was a farm bailiff at Teston.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.7.1  ~~  Bertram Alchin

Bertram was born at Snodland in 1880. The 1881 census records that he and his mother were still living at Snodland. There is no further record of Bertram and he may either have been adopted out or took his step-father's name.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.8  ~~  Fanny Alchin

 Fanny was born at Birling in 1860 (Malling 1860 June qtr Volume 2a Page 362) and she was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 9th July 1860. Fanny died at Hamhill aged 4 years and she was buried at Birling on 4th March 1864.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.9  ~~  Mary Ann Alchin

Mary (who was later known to her family as Aunt Polly) was born at Birling in late 1861 (Malling 1861 December qtr Volume 2a Page 74). She was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 5th January 1862. The 1871 census records that Mary was a school girl and she was living with her widowed mother at Hamhill, Birling.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.10  ~~  Eliza Jane Alchin

Eliza was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 4th October 1863 (Malling 1863 September qtr Volume 2a Page 401). Eliza died in 1864 aged about 1 year (Malling 1864 December qtr Volume 2a Page 255) and she was buried at Birling on 4th December 1864.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.11  ~~  Anna Maria Alchin

Anna was born at Hamhill in 1866 (Malling 1866 March qtr Volume 2a Page 454) a few months after the death of her father. She was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 18th February 1866. The 1871 census records that Anna was a school girl and she was living with her widowed mother at Hamhill, Birling.

The 1881 census records that Anna was a school girl and she was living with her widowed mother at Birling. Anna married Arthur Patch in 1887 (Medway 1887 December qtr Volume 2a Page 981); he was born at Plaxtol in 1861. Arthur and Anna had at least three children – Edwin (1888), Dora (1890) and Harry (1892).

The 1891 census records that Arthur was a gas stoker and he and his wife and their two young children were living at Brookfield Place Cottages, Aylesford. The 1901 census records that Arthur was still a gas stoker and he and his wife and their two sons were living at Ivy Cottages, Aylesford.

The couple later lived at Cranbrook. After Arthur's death, Anna returned to Aylesford where she lived in an almshouse. She died in 1940 aged about 74 years.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.11.1  ~~  Edwin Patch

Edwin was born at Aylesford in 1888. The 1891 census records that the young boy was living with his family at Brookfield Place Cottages, Aylesford. The 1901 census records that the school boy was living at Ivy Cottage, Aylesford.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.11.2  ~~  Dora Patch

Dora was born at Aylesford in 1890. The 1891 census records that the young girl was living with her family at Brookfield Place Cottages, Aylesford. She is not recorded with the rest of her family in the 1901 census.

1.3.5.2.2.3.9.11.3  ~~  Harry Patch

Harry was born at Aylesford in 1892. The 1901 census records that the school boy was living at Ivy Cottage, Aylesford.

1.3.5.2.2.3.10  ~~  James Alchin

James was born at Hamhill and he was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 15th June 1828. The 1841 census records that he was living with his parents at Hamhill Street, Birling. The 1851 census records that he was an unmarried 22 year old journeyman wheelwright living with his parents at 5 Hamill Street, Birling.

James married Mary in 1857 (Maidstone 1857 June qtr Volume 2a Page 610); her surname is presently unknown but she was born at East Malling in 1833. James and Mary had at least five children including two sets of twins – Eliza (1858), Sarah and Edward (1859), James and Henry (1864). The baptism records for his children record that James' occupation was a carpenter.

The 1861 census records that James was employed as a journeyman wheelwright. He and his wife and their twin children were living at Hamhill, Birling. The 1871 census records that James was a wheelwright and he and his wife and their surviving twins were living at Brook Gate, Hamhill, Birling.

The 1881 census records that James and Mary were living with their eldest daughter and grandson at Birling. James was employed as a wheelwright. The 1891 census records that James and Mary were still living at Birling and James was still working as a wheelwright. Their grandson Reuben Alchin was still living with them.

Mary probably died in 1892 aged about 60 years (Malling 1892 September qtr Volume 2a Page 323). The 1901 census records that James was still a wheelwright of Birling. He was widowed and he was lodging with Alfred and Mildred Homewood of the "Freemason's Arms", Brooks Street, Birling.

James may have died in 1911 aged 84 years (Greenwich 1911 June qtr Volume 1d page 484).

1.3.5.2.2.3.10.1  ~~  Eliza Ann Alchin

Eliza was born at Hamhill in 1858 (Malling 1858 June qtr Volume 2a Page 333) and she was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 28th June 1858. Eliza died soon afterwards and she was buried at Birling on 11th July 1858 (Malling 1858 September qtr Volume 2a Page 227).

1.3.5.2.2.3.10.2  ~~  Sarah Eliza Alchin

Sarah and her twin brother Edward were born at Birling in early 1859 (Malling 1859 March qtr Volume 2a Page 243). They were baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 24th November 1859. The 1861 census records that the twin babies were living with their parents at Hamhill, Birling.

The 1871 census records that Sarah was a school girl and she was living with her family at Brook Gate, Hamhill near Birling. Sarah appears to have had a natural born son – Reuben (1877). The 1881 census records that she was "out of work", unmarried and she and her son were living with her parents at Birling.

Sarah married Thomas Lee at Birling on 19th November 1881 (Malling 1881 December qtr Volume 2a Page 951). The wedding ceremony was performed by Rev'd W. Madden and the witnesses were James Alchin and Isabella Wallis. Thomas was born at Birling in 1852 and he was the son of Thomas and Letitia Lee. The 1871 census records that Thomas Lee junior was an unmarried carter of Horn Street, Birling. 

Thomas and Sarah had at least eight children – Ellen (1882), Eliza (1884), James (1886), Winifred (1887), Edward (1890), Lily (1891), Henry (1894) and Olive (1900). The 1891 census records that Thomas was a general labourer and he and his wife and their five children were living at Maces Cottage, Birling.

The 1901 census records that Thomas was employed as a labourer in a chalk quarry. He and his wife and their five surviving children were living at 16 Church Place, Wouldham.

1.3.5.2.2.3.10.2.1  ~~  Reuben Allen Alchin

Reuben was born at Birling in 1877 (Malling 1877 June qtr Volume 2a Page 515). The 1881 census records that he was living with his mother and grandparents at Birling. The 1891 census records that Reuben was employed as a farm boy and he was still living with his grandparents at Birling.

Reuben died in 1942 aged 65 years (Chatham 1942 June qtr Volume 2a Page 1714).

1.3.5.2.2.3.10.2.2  ~~  Ellen Mary Lee

Ellen was born at Birling in 1882 (Malling 1882 ? qtr Volume 2a Page **) and she was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 30th July 1882. The 1891 census records that the school girl was living with her family at Maces Cottage, Birling.

Ellen married William Jeffrey at Birling on 26th August 1899. The ceremony was performed by Rev'd A. Cochrane and the witnesses were Thomas and Sarah Eliza Lee. William was a 25 year old labourer of Birling (born in 1874) and he was the son of William Jeffrey who was also a labourer.

William and Mary had at least one child – Sarah (1900). The 1901 census records that William was a labourer in a chalk quarry and he and his wife and their infant daughter were living at 10 Church Street, Wouldham. Walter and Mary Wood and their four children were visiting them at the time.

1.3.5.2.2.3.10.2.3  ~~  Eliza Sarah Lee

Eliza was born at Birling in 1884 (Malling 1884 September qtr Volume 2a Page 591). She was baptised at All Saint's church, Birling on 30th November 1884. The 1891 census records that the school girl was living with her family at Maces Cottage, Birling. The 1901 census records that Eliza was a domestic servant at Ryarsh.

1.3.5.2.2.3.10.2.4  ~~  James Edward Lee

James was born at Birling in 1886 (Malling 1886 June qtr Volume 2a Page 619). He was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 27th June 1886. The 1891 census records that the school boy was living with his family at Maces Cottage, Birling. James is not recorded in the 1901 English census.

Winifred was born at Birling in late 1887 (Malling 1887 December qtr Volume 2a Page 634). The 1891 census records that the young girl was living with her family at Maces Cottage, Birling. The 1901 census records that Winifred was living with her parents at 16 Church Place, Wouldham.

Edward was born at Birling in 1890 (Malling 1890 March qtr Volume 2a Page 640). The 1891 census records that the toddler was living with his family at Maces Cottage, Birling. The 1901 census records that the school boy was living with his family at 16 Church Place, Wouldham.

Lily was born at Birling in 1891 (Malling 1891 December qtr Volume 2a Page 619). The 1901 census records that the school girl was living with her parents at 16 Church Place, Wouldham.

1.3.5.2.2.3.10.2.8  ~~  Henry Lee

Henry was born at Birling in 1894 (Malling 1894 September qtr Volume 2a Page 635). The 1901 census records that the school boy was living with his family at 16 Church Place, Wouldham.

Olive was born at Birling in 1900 (Malling 1900 March qtr Volume 2a Page 705). The 1901 census records that Olive was living with her parents at 16 Church Place, Wouldham.

1.3.5.2.2.3.10.3  ~~  Edward Thomas Alchin

Edward and his twin sister Sarah were baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 24th November 1859. The 1861 census records that the twin babies were living with their parents at Hamhill, Birling. The 1871 census records that Edward was a school boy and he was living with his family at Brook Gate, Hamhill near Birling.

Edward married Mary Ann Trowell in 1895 (Greenwich 1895 June qtr Volume 1d Page 1577); she was born at Grays, Essex in 1847. The 1901 census records that Edward was employed as a stoker and he and his wife were living at 12 George Street, Greenwich. Mary died in 1929 aged 82 years (Greenwick 1929 June qtr Volume 1d Page 919). Edward died in 1939 aged 79 years (Greenwich 1939 June qtr Volume 1d Page 806).

1.3.5.2.2.3.10.4  ~~  James Arthur Alchin

James was born at Birling in 1864 (Malling 1864 March qtr Volume 2a Page 425) He and his twin brother Henry were baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 2nd January 1864. James died soon afterwards (Malling 1864 March qtr Volume 2a Page 317) and he was buried at Birling on 10th January 1864.

1.3.5.2.2.3.10.5  ~~  Henry William Alchin

Henry was born at Birling in 1864 (Malling 1864 March qtr Volume 2a Page 426). He and his twin  brother James were baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 2nd January 1864. Henry died aged 5 years (Malling 1869 March qtr Volume 2a Page 312) and he was buried at Birling on 7th February 1869.

1.3.5.2.2.4  ~~  Thomas Alchin

Thomas was born at Birling in 1785 and he was baptised at All Saints' church, Birling on 18th February 1786. He probably married Sarah Austin at All Saints' church, Maidstone on 17th October 1806. Sarah was born at East Malling in 1785 although the marriage register records that she and Thomas were both from Maidstone.

Thomas and Sarah had at least eight children – Thomas (1807), Ann (1809), John (1812), Harriett (1814), George (1816), William (1818), Richard (1821) and Emily (1829). Thomas seems to have mainly raised his family at East Malling apart from a period from 1809 to 1812 when he and his family were living at Leybourne.

The 1841 census records that Thomas was an agricultural labourer and he lived at Well Street, East Malling with his wife and the family of his widowed daughter Ann Warner. The 1851 census records that Thomas was an agricultural labourer and he and his wife and their 20 year old grand-daughter Frances Warner were living at Mill Street, East Malling. Thomas was bequeathed one eighth of the estate of his Peggy Alchin when she died a couple of months later.

Sarah may have died in 1856 aged about 71 years (Malling 1856 March qtr Volume 2a Page 217). The 1861 census records that Thomas was a widowed pauper (on parish relief) and he was living with his widowed daughter, Ann Warner and her sons at 29 Mill Street, East Malling. Thomas died at Mill Street aged 82 years and he was buried at East Malling on 6th October 1867 (Malling 1867 December qtr Volume 2a Page 261).

1.3.5.2.2.4.1  ~~  Thomas Alchin

Thomas was born at East Malling on 22nd August 1807 and he was baptised at St James' church, East Malling on 6th September 1807.  Thomas married Hannah Hayman in about 1830; she was born at Birmingham on 4th June 1805 and she was baptised on the same day at St Phillip's church, Birmingham, the daughter of George and Lucy Hayman.

Thomas and Hannah had at least six children – Sarah (1831), Harriett (1832), Thomas (1836), Emily (1839), Sophia (1842) and Hannah (1844). The 1841 census records that Thomas was a gardener and he and his wife and their three children were living at John Street, Peckham. In the 1851 census Thomas is recorded as a married man who was working as a house servant to Ann Buttonshaw at The Street, Wateringbury.

The 1861 census records that Thomas was a gardener and he and his wife and their daughter Sophia were living at 25 John Street, Camberwell. The 1871 census records that Thomas was a gardener and he and his wife and one daughter were living at Peckham (the actual address is illegible).

Hannah died at Peckham on 9th June 1879 aged 73 years (Camberwell 1879 June qtr Volume 1d Page 463). Thomas appears in the 1881 census as a widowed 73 year old gardener living in lodgings at Camberwell in Surrey. Thomas died at Camberwell on 2nd November 1884 aged 77 years (Camberwell 1884 December qtr Volume 1d Page 451).

1.3.5.2.2.4.1.1  ~~  Sarah Ann Alchin

Sarah was born at Peckham in 1831 and she was baptised at St Giles' church, Camberwell on 13th February 1831. Sarah was not recorded with the rest of her family in the 1841 census. It is possible but unlikely that Sarah may have married either Henry Thompson or Horatio White in 1852 (Tonbridge 1852 December qtr Volume 2a Page 636).

1.3.5.2.2.4.1.2  ~~  Harriett Alchin

Harriett was born at Peckham in 1832. The 1841 census records that the young girl was living with her family at John Street, Peckham. The 1871 census records that Harriett was a spinster and she was living with her parents at Peckham.

1.3.5.2.2.4.1.3  ~~  Thomas Alchin

Thomas was born at Peckham on 19th November 1836. He was baptised at Grove Chapel, Camberwell on 29th January 1837. The 1841 census records that the young boy was living with his family at John Street, Peckham.

Thomas married Esther Adelaide Edwards at St George's church, Hanover Square, London on 12th June 1860 (St Geo Han Sq 1860 June qtr Volume 1a Page 384); she was baptised at St Giles' church, Cripplegate in London on 3rd November 1833.

Thomas and Esther had least one child – Hannah (1861). Thomas and his family migrated to New Zealand during the 1860's. Esther died at Milton, Otago on 31st December 1895 aged 62 years and she was buried at Fairfax cemetery, Milton on 3rd January 1896. Thomas died at Milton on 11th January 1905 aged 68 years and he was buried with his wife on 13th January 1905.

1.3.5.2.2.4.1.3.1  ~~  Hannah Alchin

Hannah was born at Orchard Street, London on 9th September 1861 (Marylebone 1861 December qtr Volume 1a Page 396). She migrated to New Zealand with her parents when she was just a young child. Hannah died at Temuka, South Canterbury on 19th October 1934 aged 73 years.

1.3.5.2.2.4.1.4  ~~  Emily Alchin

Emily was born at Peckham in 1839 (Camberwell 1839 December qtr Volume 4 Page 55). The 1841 census records that the infant was living with her family at John Street, Peckham. Emily died in mid 1842 aged 2 ½ years (Camberwell 1842 June qtr Volume 4 Page 42).

1.3.5.2.2.4.1.5  ~~  Sophia Alchin

Sophia was born at Peckham in 1842 (Camberwell 1842 September qtr Volume 4 Page 63). The 1861 census records that Sophia was unmarried and she was living with her parents at 25 John Street, Camberwell. Sophia may have married in 1865 (Dartford 1865 March qtr Volume 2a Page 367).

1.3.5.2.2.4.1.6  ~~  Hannah Alchin

Hannah was born at Peckham in 1844 (Canberwell 1844 September qtr Volume 4 Page 59). She married Edward Lawrence at Camberwell on 10th June 1867 (Camberwell 1867 June qtr Volume 1d Page 903); he was born at Southwark in 1843, the son of Charles Lawrence.

Edward and Hannah had at least seven children – Edward (1868), Thomas (1870), Charles (1871), Hannah (1874), William (1877), Reuben (1880) and Frederick (1883). The 1881 census records that Edward was a machinist and he and his wife and their five children were living at 28 Cost Street, Camberwell.

The 1891 census records that Edward was a joiner's machinist and he and his wife and six of their children were living at 35 Reedham Street, Camberwell. The 1901 census records that was a wood working machinist and he and his wife and their two youngest sons were still living at 35 Reedham Street, Camberwell.

1.3.5.2.2.4.1.6.1  ~~  Edward Allchin Lawrence

Edward was born at St Lukes in the City of London in 1868. The 1881 census records that Edward was a school boy and he was living with his family at 28 Cost Street, Camberwell. Edward married Edith Annie Coulthard at Gateshead, Durham on 2nd November 1889 (Gateshead 1889 December qtr Volume 10a Page 1310); she was born at Gateshead in 1868 the daughter of John and Mary Ann Coulthard.

Edward and Edith had at least seven children – Edward (1890), Henry (1891), Hannah (1892), Edith (1895), Rosina (1897), Lily (1899) and Thomas (1901). The 1891 census records that Edward was a coppersmith and he and his wife were living alone at 41 Newland Street, Barrow in Furness.

During the late 1890's Edward moved his family to London. The 1901 census records that Edward was a coppersmith and he and his wife and five of their children were living at 59 Taplow Street, Hoxton.

Edward was probably born at Gateshead in about 1890 (Gateshead 1890 June qtr Volume 10a Page 897). Edward did not survive for very long (Gateshead 1890 June qtr Volume 10a Page 490).

Henry was born at Barrow in Furness in 1891 (Barrow in Furness 1891 June qtr Volume 8c Page 933). The 1901 census records that the school boy was living with his family at 59 Taplow Street, Hoxton.

Rosina was born at Hoxton in 1897 (Shoreditch 1897 June qtr Volume 1c Page 51). The 1901 census records that the young girl was living with her family at 59 Taplow Street, Hoxton.

Lily was born at Hoxton in 1899 (Shoreditch 1899 March qtr Volume 1c Page 53). The 1901 census records that the young girl was living with her family at 59 Taplow Street, Hoxton.

1.3.5.2.2.4.1.6.1.7  ~~  Thomas Lawrence

Thomas was born at Shoreditch on 19th June 1901. He married Emily Yearley at Shoreditch on 11th April 1925; she was born at Holborn on 29th October 1902 the daughter of Charles Yearley and Rosina Atkins. Thomas and Emily had eight children – Thomas, Rose, Emily, Alexander, Sydney, Roy, Frederick and Joyce.

Emily died at Edmonton on 14th September 1940 aged only 37 years. Thomas died in London in 1971 aged 70 years and he was buried at St Pancras on 17th February 1971.

Thomas was born at Peckham in late 1869 or early 1870. The 1891 census records that Thomas worked as a joiner and he was living with his parents at 35 Reedham Street, Camberwell. Thomas married Evelyn; she was born at Islington in 1873.

Charles was born at Camberwell in 1871 Camberwell 1871 March qtr Volume 1d Page 743). The 1881 census records that Charles was a school boy and he was living with his family at 28 Cost Street, Camberwell. The 1891 census records that Charles worked as a commercial clerk and he was living with his parents at 35 Reedham Street, Camberwell.

Charles married Emily; she was born at Newington in 1868. Charles and Emily had at least two children – Ethel (1897) and Rose (1898). The 1901 census records that Charles was a sanitary inspector and he and his wife and their two young daughters were living at Blackstock Road, Highbury (Islington).

William was born at Camberwell in late 1877 (Camberwell 1877 December qtr Volume 1d Page 897). The 1881 census records that the young boy was living with his family at 28 Cost Street, Camberwell. The 1891 census records that the school boy was living with his family at 35 Reedham Street, Camberwell.

Reuben was born at Peckham in late 1880 (Camberwell 1880 December qtr Volume 1d Page 859). The 1881 census records that the 3 month old infant was living with his family at 28 Cost Street, Camberwell. The 1891 census records that the school boy was living with his family at 35 Reedham Street, Camberwell.

The 1920 census records that Reuben was an unmarried carpenter and he was still living with his parents at 35 Reedham Street, Camberwell.

1.3.5.2.2.4.1.6.7  ~~  Frederick Lawrence

Frederick was born at Camberwell in 1883 (Camberwell 1883 June qtr Volume 1d Page 831). The 1891 census records that the school boy was living with his family at 35 Reedham Street, Camberwell. The 1901 census records that Frederick was working as a coppersmith and he was living with his parents at 35 Reedham Street, Camberwell.

1.3.5.2.2.4.2  ~~  Ann Alchin

Ann was baptised at the church of St Peter and St Paul, Leybourne on 26th March 1809. Ann married John Warner at St James' church, East Malling on 13th February 1831. The ceremony was performed by the Rev'd Isaac Godmond and the witnesses to their wedding were John Alchin and James Thornhill.

John and Ann had at least three children – Frances (1831), George (1833) and William (1838). The 1841 census records that Ann was a laundress and she and her three children were living with her parents at Well Street, East Malling. The 1851 census records that Ann was a widowed laundress and she was living with her two sons at Mill Street, East Malling.

The 1861 census records that Ann was still a laundress. She was living at 29 Mill Street, East Malling with her unmarried son William, her young grandson Thomas Warner and her widowed father Thomas Alchin.

1.3.5.2.2.4.2.1  ~~  Frances Warner

Frances was born at Chatham in about 1831. The 1841 census records that she was living with her grandparents at Well Street, East Malling. The 1851 census records that Frances was employed as a laundress and she was living with her grandparents at Mill Street, East Malling. Frances may have had an illegitimate son Thomas at West Malling in about 1857.

Thomas was born at West Malling in about 1857. The 1861 census records that Thomas was living with his widowed grandmother and great-grandfather at 29 Mill Street, East Malling.

George was born at Chatham in 1833. The 1841 census records that George was living with his mother and his grandparents at Well Street, East Malling. The 1851 census records that he was employed as an agricultural labourer and he was living with his widowed mother at Mill Street, East Malling.

The 1891 census records that George was a farm labourer and he and his wife and their daughter were living at Mill Street, East Malling.

Jane was born at West Malling in about 1858. The 1881 census records that she was unmarried and she was living with her parents at Springett's Hill, East Malling.
