Part 1e ~~ The Alchins of Tunbridge Wells, Kent This family is descended directly from the ancient family of Alchorne of Rotherfield in Sussex. John Alchorne moved his family from Rotherfield to Horsmonden in Kent in about 1802 and thereafter the family was generally known as Alchin / Allchin. This evolution of their name was common to other branches of the family who had moved from Sussex to Kent in the previouys two centuries. 1. ~~ John Alchorne John was probably born at Rotherfield in about 1770. John married Hannah Smith at Rotherfield on 16th January 1798. The witnesses to their wedding were George Alchorne and Ann Bryant.
