William was born at Hailsham on 6th July 1899. The 1901 census records that the toddler was living with his family at 22 Longfellow Road, Croydon. William married Clara Nutley at Stanmer on 8th April 1917. William and Clara had at least four children.

Clara died in about 1957. William died at Hailsham on 25th October 1977 aged 78 years.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.2.9.3  ~~  George Thomas Clark

George was born at Croydon on 9th May 1901. He married Grace May Stevens at Brighton on 21st January 1922. George and Grace had at least eight children. George died at Brighton on 26th March 1968 aged 66 years. Grace died at Brighton on 26th June 1995 aged 94 years.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.2.9.4  ~~  Ernest Arthur Clark

Ernest was born at West Molesey on 27th August 1903. He married Cecilia Newton at Brighton on 16th September 1926; she was born in 1900. Ernest and Cecilia had at least five children. Ernest died at St Francis Hospital, Hayward Heath on 18th September 1967 aged 64 years. Cecilia died on 1st July 1987 aged 87 years.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.2.9.5  ~~  Charlie Clark

Charlie was born at Cann’s Cottage, West Molesey on 11th October 1906. He married Ivy Selina Akehurst at Patcham on 22nd March 1930. Charlie and Ivy had at least two children. Charlie died at the Keeper’s cottage, Horsmonden on 21st July 1950 aged 43 years and he was buried at Horsmonden on 26th July 1950.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.2.9.6  ~~  Grace Clark

Grace was born at Guildford on 25th February 1909. She married Sidney Humphrey on 9th August 1929. Sidney and Grace had at least two children. Sidney died at Brighton on 24th July 1978. Grace died at Haywards Heath Hospital on 24th February 1980, the day before her 71st birthday.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.2.9.7  ~~  Harry Clark

Harry was born at Guildford on 11th May 1911. He married Ena Ayling, a widow with three sons, on 16th September 1939. Ena died on 15th July 1953 aged 40 years, 5 weeks after the birth of her last child. Harry died at Cuckfield Hospital on 5th March 1985 aged 73 years.

Albert was born at Wivelfields on 29th March 1914. Albert died at the Royal Alexandria Hospital, Brighton on 16th April 1915 aged just over 1 year.

Freda was born at Falmer near Brighton on 24th June 1916. He married Freda Lee at Brighton on 17th July 1937. Frederick and Freda had seven children.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.2.10  ~~  Walter Quick Rushman

Walter was born at 8 Boston Street, Brighton on 19th January 1875 (Brighton 1875 March qtr Volume 2b Page 229). The 1881 census records that the school boy was living with his family at 35 Dyke Road, Preston. The 1891 census records that Walter worked as an odd-job boy on a farm and he was living with his parents at 48 Derry Place, Brighton.

Walter married Mary Ann in 1899 (Brighton 1899 December qtr Volume 2b Page 540); she was born at Brighton in 1876. Walter and Mary had at least one child – Daisy (1899). The 1901 census records that Walter was a navvy and he and his wife, their daughter and his wife’s young brother were living at 37 Islingwood Place, East Brighton.

Daisy was born at Brighton in 1899 (Brighton 1899 September qtr Volume 2b Page 218). The 1901 census records that the young girl was living with her family at 37 Islingwood Place, East Brighton.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.2.11  ~~  Elejene Rushman

Elejene was born at 8 Boston Street, Brighton on 29th June 1876 (Brighton 1876 September qtr Volume 2b Page 216). The 1881 census records that the young girl was living with her family at 35 Dyke Road, Preston. The 1891 census records that Elejene was a domestic servant and she was living with her parents at 48 Derry Place, Brighton.

The 1901 census records that Elejene was an unmarried tailoress and she was living with her parents at 6 Elder Street, Brighton. Elejene married in 1904 (Brighton 1904 June qtr Volume 2b Page 526).

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.2.12  ~~  Nereus Julia Rushman

Nereus, known as Julia, was born at 2 Boston Street, Brighton on 28th May 1878 (Brighton 1878 June qtr Volume 2b Page 254). The 1881 census records that the young girl was living with her family at 35 Dyke Road, Preston. The 1891 census records that the school girl was living with her family at 48 Derry Place, Brighton.

Julia married James Bartlett in 1896 (Brighton 1896 December qtr Volume 2b Page 443).

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.2.13   ~~  Orne Maria Josephine Rushman

Orne was born at 74 New England Street, Brighton on 25th March 1887 (Brighton 1887 June qtr Volume 2b Page 243). The 1891 census records that the young girl was living with her family at 48 Derry Place, Brighton.

The 1901 census records that Orne (known here as Josephine) was coat and mantle apprentice and she was living with her parents at 6 Elder Street, Brighton. Orne married a presently unknown man in 1908 (Brighton 1908 March qtr Volume 2b Page 377).

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.3  ~~  George Allcorn

George was born at New Birchden, Groombridge on 10th August 1845 and he was baptised at Speldhurst on 24th August 1845. The 1851 census records that the young boy was living with his family at Hamsell Bridge, Rotherfield. The 1861 census records that George was a carter for Samuel Wickens at Forge Farm, Eridge Green

George married 15 year old Jane Louisa Godsmark at Eridge Green church on 30th June 1869 (Ticehurst 1869 June qtr Volume 2b Page 139); she was born at Deptford in South London in 1853. George and Jane had at least two children – Louisa (1870) and George (1872). The 1871 census records that George was a farm labourer and he and his wife and their infant daughter were living at Station Road, Withyham.

Jane left her husband in 1876 when she saw that he could not provide for her in the way that would support the lifestyle she wanted. George died at Groombridge of pulmonary tuberculosis on 1st May 1878 (Uckfield 1878 June qtr Volume 2b Page 75) aged only 32 years.

Jane’s ultimate fate is unknown.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.3.1  ~~  Louisa Johnson Allcorn

Louisa was born at Park Corner, Groombridge on 10th December 1870 (Uckfield 1870 December qtr Volume 2b Page 101) and she was baptised at Eridge Green on 29th January 1871. The 1871 census records that the 3 month old infant was living with her family at Station Road, Withyham.

The 1881 census records that the school girl was living with her paternal grandparents at Birchden, Rotherfield. The 1891 census records that Louisa was nursing her grandmother and she was living with her uncle and aunt (David and Emily Bassett) at Birchden, Rotherfield.

Louisa married James Miller at Heyshott on 23rd October 1901 (Midhurst 1901 December qtr Volume 2b Page 911).

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.3.2  ~~  George Frederick Allcorn

George was born at Fostal, Eridge Green on 21st September 1872 (Uckfield 1872 December qtr Volume 2b Page 101) and he was baptised at Eridge Green on 10th November 1872. The 1881 census records that the school boy was living with his paternal grandparents at Birchden, Rotherfield.

The 1891 census records that George was a tanner and he was living with his uncle and aunt (David and Emily Bassett) at Birchden, Rotherfield. George married Mercy Crittal at Eridge Green on 16th September 1895 (Ticehurst 1895 September qtr Volume 2b Page 205); she was born at Rotherfield in 1877. George and Mercy had at least three children – George (1896), Mercy (1899) and Kate (1901).

The 1901 census records that George was a carter and cowman on a farm and he and his wife and their two young children were living at Clayland’s Cottage, Withyham. At the time of their son’s death in action in 1918 George and Mercy were living at Brightling.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.3.2.1  ~~  George Allcorn

George was born at Eridge Green on 10th January 1896 (Uckfield 1896 March qtr Volume 2b Page 115) and he was baptised at Eridge Green on 16th February 1896. The 1901 census records that the young boy was living with his family at Clayland’s Cottage, Withyham.

George enlisted in the British Army during World War One and he was assigned as a Private (#47619) to the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. George was killed in action in France on 31st July 1918 and he was buried at Borre war cemetery.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.3.2.2  ~~  Mercy Louisa Allcorn

Mercy was born at Withyham on 21st June 1899 (East Grinstead 1899 September qtr Volume 2b Page 135). The 1901 census records that the young girl was living with her family at Clayland’s Cottage, Withyham.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.3.2.3  ~~  Kate Allcorn

Kate, known as Kit, was born at Withyham on 24th August 1901 (East Grinstead 1901 December qtr Volume 2b Page 133). She married Joseph Smith at Mountfield on 16th June 1925. Kit died in Scotland on 6th December 1994 aged 93 years.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.4  ~~  Louisa Ann Allcorn

Louisa was born at The Forge, Eridge Green on 5th October 1847 and she was baptised at St Denys’ church, Rotherfield on 17th November 1847. The 1851 census records that the young girl was living with her family at Hamsell Bridge, Rotherfield. The 1861 census records that Louisa was a servant girl for her uncle and aunt (William and Sarah Martin) at Brightridge Lane, Tonbridge.

Louisa married David Parker (probably her cousin) at Eridge Green church on 12th February 1866 (Ticehurst 1866 March qtr Volume 2b Page 95); he was born at Rotherfield in about 1842. David and Louisa had at least seven children – William (1867), Fred (1869), Alice (1871), Herbert (1874), Edith (1878), Jessie (1881) and Violet (1885).

The 1871 census records that David was an agricultural labourer and Louisa was a needle woman. The young couple and their two children were living at Blacksmith’s House, Rotherfield. The 1881 census records that David was an agricultural labourer and he and his wife and their five children were living at Park Corner, Rotherfield.

The 1891 census records that David was a woodman and he and his wife and three of their children were living at Bromley Bank Cottage, Eridge Road, Frant. The 1901 census records that David was a roadman on an estate and he was living with his wife and their youngest daughter at Moat Lodge, Frant.

David died in 1926 aged 85 years and he was buried at Frant.

William was born at Eridge Green on 27th April 1867 (Uckfield 1867 June qtr Volume 2b Page 102) and he was baptised at Eridge Green on 9th June 1867. The 1871 census records that the young boy was living with his family at Blacksmith’s House, Rotherfield. The 1881 census records that William was a gardener and he was living with his parents at Park Corner, Rotherfield.

The 1891 census records that William was an unmarried gardener and he was lodging with Maria Roberts (a 56 year old widow) at Stratton Audley in Oxfordshire.

Fred was born at Eridge Green in 1869 (Uckfield 1869 September qtr Volume 2b Page 102) and he was baptised at Eridge Green on 25th July 1869. The 1871 census records that the young boy was living with his family at Blacksmith’s House, Rotherfield. The 1881 census records that the school boy was living with his family at Park Corner, Rotherfield.

Alice was born at Eridge Green in 1871 (Uckfield 1871 December qtr Volume 2b Page 101) and she was baptised at Eridge Green on 24th December 1871. The 1881 census records that the school girl was living with her family at Park Corner, Rotherfield.

Herbert was born at Frant in 1874 (Ticehurst 1874 September qtr Volume 2b Page 102). The 1881 census records that the school boy was living with his family at Park Corner, Rotherfield. The 1891 census records that Herbert was an agricultural labourer and he was living with his parents at Bromley Bank Cottage, Eridge Road, Frant.

Herbert married Alice Boyce in 1896 (Tonbridge 1896 December qtr Volume 2a Page 1309); she was born at Tunbridge Wells in 1873. Herbert and Alice had at least one child – Hilda (1898). The 1901 census records that Herbert was a Police Constable and he and his wife and their young daughter were living at Glenside, Dorking Road, Tunbridge Wells.

Hilda was born at Tunbridge Wells in 1897 (Tonbridge 1897 December qtr Volume 2a Page 705). The 1901 census records that the young girl was living with her family at Glenside, Dorking Road, Tunbridge Wells.

Edith was born at Park Corner, Eridge Green in 1878 (Uckfield 1878 March qtr Volume 2b Page 118) and she was baptised at Eridge Green on 24th February 1878. The 1881 census records that the young girl was living with her family at Park Corner, Rotherfield.

The 1891 census records that the school girl was living with her family at Bromley Bank Cottage, Eridge Road, Frant.

Jessie was born at Park Corner, Eridge Green in 1881 and she was baptised at Eridge Green on 30th October 1881. Jessie died at Park Corner in 1882 (Tonbridge 1882 March qtr Volume 2a Page 387) when she was only 5 months old and she was buried at Eridge Green on 27th January 1882.

Violet was born at Park Corner, Eridge Green in 1885 (Uckfield 1885 December qtr Volume 2b Page 134) and she was baptised at Eridge Green on 25th October 1885. The 1891 census records that the school girl was living with her family at Bromley Bank Cottage, Eridge Road, Frant.

The 1901 census records that Violet was an estate assistant and she was living with her parents at Moat Lodge, Frant.

Alice was born at Hamsell Bridge on 31st March 1850 and she was baptised at St Denys’ church, Rotherfield on 3rd April 1850. The 1851 census records that the toddler was living with her family at Hamsell Bridge, Rotherfield. The 1861 census records that the school girl was living with her family at Leechpit, Rotherfield.

Alice married Henry James Vinall at Eridge Green church on 27th November 1873 (Ticehurst 1873 December qtr Volume 2b Page 164); he was born at Penshurst, Kent in 1850. Henry and Alice had at least five children – Dennis (1876), Edith (1879), Kate (1880), Nellie (1882) and Alice (1890). The 1881 census records that Henry was a gardener and he and his wife and their three eldest children were living at Rock Cottages near Motts Mill, Groombridge.

The 1891 census records that Henry was a gardener and he and his wife and their five children were living at 2 Clarke’s Cottages, Withyham. The 1901 census records that Henry was a gardener and he and his wife, their two unmarried daughters and a grand daughter (4 year old Ellen Clara Vinall) were living at Bullfinches, Rotherfield.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.5.1  ~~  Dennis Henry Vinall

Dennis was born at Withyham on 2nd April 1876 (East Grinstead 1876 June qtr Volume 2b Page 130). The 1881 census records that the school boy was living with his family at Rock Cottages near Motts Mill, Groombridge. The 1891 census records that Dennis was living with his parents (and probably assisting his father) at 2 Clarke’s Cottages, Withyham.

Dennis married Sophia Meads in early 1901 (East Grinstead 1901 March qtr Volume 2b Page 203); she was born at Sevenoaks in 1880. The 1901 census records that Dennis was a gardener’s labourer and the newly weds were living in his parent’s old house at 2 Clarke’s Cottages, Withyham.

Dennis and Sophia had at least one child – Dennis (1902).

Dennis was probably born at Withyham in 1902 (East Grinstead 1902 June qtr Volume 2b Page 131).

Edith was born at Withyham on 19th March 1879 (East Grinstead 1879 June qtr Volume 2b Page 142) and she was baptised at Withyham on 11th May 1879. The 1881 census records that the young girl was living with her family at Rock Cottages near Motts Mill, Groombridge.

The 1891 census records that the school girl was living with her family at 2 Clarke’s Cottages, Withyham. Edith probably had a natural child – Ellen (1900). The 1901 census records that Edith was an unmarried cook and she and her daughter were living with her parents at Bullfinches, Rotherfield.

Edith married James William Fuller at Eridge Green on 6th October 1906 (Ticehurst 1906 December qtr Volume 2b Page 243)..

Ellen was born at Withyham in December 1900 (East Grinstead 1900 December qtr Volume 2b Page 122). The 1901 census records that the 4 month old infant was staying with mother (?) and her paternal grandparents at Bullfinches, Rotherfield.

Kate was born at Withyham on 13th September 1880 (East Grinstead 1880 December qtr Volume 2b Page 127) and she was baptised at Withyham on 5th December 1880. The 1881 census records that the 5 month old infant was living with her family at Rock Cottages near Motts Mill, Groombridge.

The 1891 census records that the school girl was living with her family at 2 Clarke’s Cottages, Withyham. Kate married Albert Taylor at Eridge Green on 9th June 1906 (Ticehurst 1906 June qtr Volume 2b Page 240).

Nellie was born at Withyham on 21st June 1882 (East Grinstead 1882 September qtr Volume 2b Page 142) and she was baptised at Withyham on 27th August 1882. The 1891 census records that the school girl was living with her family at 2 Clarke’s Cottages, Withyham.

Nellie married either Edwin Homewood or Ellis Albert Dancy in 1905 (East Grinstead 1905 June qtr Volume 2b Page 283).

Alice was born at Withyham on 1st May 1890 (East Grinstead 1890 June qtr Volume 2b Page 130). The 1891 census records that the 11 month old infant was living with her family at 2 Clarke’s Cottages, Withyham. The 1901 census records that the school girl was living with her family at Bullfinches, Rotherfield.

Ellen was born at Hamsell, Eridge Green on 14th October 1854 (Uckfield 1854 December qtr Volume 2b Page 77). The 1861 census records that the school girl was living with her family at Leechpit, Rotherfield. The 1871 census records that Ellen was living with her parents in a cottage near the Park Corner Inn, Rotherfield.

Ellen married George Hendley at St George’s church, Crowborough on 5th August 1882 (East Grinstead 1882 September qtr Volume 2b Page 227). George and Ellen had at least one child – Richard (1883). The 1891 census records that George was a miller and he and his wife and their son were living at Trotton, Sussex.

The 1901 census records that George was a baker and he and his wife were living at Cranmore House, Lower Green, Heyshott.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.6.1  ~~  Richard Lovell Hendley

Richard was born at Groombridge on 13th May 1883 (East Grinstead 1883 September qtr Volume 2b Page 139). The 1891 census records that the school boy was living with his family at Trotton. The 1901 census records that Richard was a railway clerk and he was boarding with James and Hannah Gladwin at 1 Shaftsbury Place, Preston in Sussex.

Richard married Eliza Stevenson at Burgess Hill on 6th March 1905 (Cuckfield 1905 March qtr Volume 2b Page 217). Richard and Eliza had at least two children – Ada (1907) and George (1921).

1.1.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.7  ~~  Emily Allcorn

Emily was born at Leach Pit, Eridge Green on 19th March 1857 (Uckfield 1857 June qtr Volume 2b Page 81) and she was baptised at Eridge Green on 3rd May 1857. The 1861 census records that the young girl was living with her family at Leechpit, Rotherfield. The 1871 census records that the school girl was living with her family in a cottage near the Park Corner Inn, Rotherfield.

Emily married David Bassett at Eridge Green on 9th December 1876 (Ticehurst 1876 December qtr Volume 2b Page 190a); he was born at Groombridge in 1856. David and Emily had only one known child – Caroline (1877). However she only lived for 3 days. The 1881 census records that David was a general labourer and he and his wife were living alone at Birchden near Rotherfield.

The 1891 census records that David was a nursery gardener and he and his wife, his mother in law and a niece and nephew were living at Birchden. The 1901 census records that David was a nursery gardener and he and his wife were now living alone at Birchden Cottages, Rotherfield.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.7.1  ~~  Caroline Bassett

Caroline was privately baptised at Eridge Green on 10th April 1877 (Uckfield 1877 June qtr Volume 2b Page 103). Caroline died when only 3 days old and she was buried at Eridge Green churchyard in an unmarked grave on 14th April 1877 (Uckfield 1877 June qtr Volume 2b Page 65).

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.8  ~~  Tom Allcorn

Tom was born at Leach Pit, Eridge Green on 11th March 1859 (Uckfield 1859 June qtr Volume 2b Page77) and he was baptised at St Denys’ church, Rotherfield on 10th April 1859. The 1861 census records that the young boy was living with his family at Leechpit, Rotherfield. The 1871 census records that the school boy was living with his family in a cottage near the Park Corner Inn, Rotherfield.

Tom married Elizabeth Sarah Lock at Binsted near Alston in Hampshire on 10th April 1882 (Alton 1882 June qtr Volume 2c Page 259); she was born at Binsted on 1st August 1852 the daughter of a blacksmith. Tom and Elizabeth had at least three children – Ellen (1883), James (1885) and Alice (1889).

The 1891 census records that Tom was a coachman and he and his wife and their three children were living at 1 Eridge Road, Speldhurst. The 1901 census records that Tom was a general labourer and he and his wife and their youngest daughter were living at Hoyle Lane, Heyshott.

Tom, Elizabeth and Alice left for Australia on 11th October 1912 to join their eldest daughter and her family in Brisbane. Elizabeth died at Gladstone Street, Cooparoo on 26th December 1925 aged 73 years. She was buried at Bulimba cemetery, East Brisbane on 28th December 1925. Tom died in Brisbane Hospital on 24th October 1936 aged 77 years. He was buried with his wife on 26th October 1936. Their grave is marked by an inscribed headstone.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.8.1  ~~  Ellen Elizabeth Allcorn

Ellen was born at Groombridge on 30th January 1883 (Uckfield 1883 March qtr Volume 2b Page 133) and she was baptised at Withyham on 25th February 1883. The 1891 census records that the school girl was living with her family at 1 Eridge Road, Speldhurst.

Ellen married Stephen Vincent at Crompton near Guildford on 30th January 1904 (Guildford 1904 March qtr Volume 2a Page 79); he was born at Rushlake Green near Heathfield on 15th January 1876. Stephen served with the 9th Lancers and her served in South Africa (Boer War), India and Ireland. After leaving the Army her served with the Metropolitan Police Force in London between 1903 and 1910.

Stephen and Ellen had at least seven children – Ivy (1905), Violet (1906), Geoffrey (1910), Dorothy (1912), Catherine (1914), Lewis (1917) and Frank (1920). Stephen emigrated to Australia on 24th June 1910 and he arrived in Brisbane on 8th August 1910. He travelled with his brother – Ellen and their children stayed behind as she was expecting their third child.

Nellie sailed for Australia in March 1911 once her baby was ready to travel. In the meantime Stephen had been working at Downs Farm, 170 miles from Brisbane, for 1 pound per week on prickly pear eradication. He then joined the Queensland Police Force but resigned from that on 16th March 1911. He then joined the Army (Queensland Militia?) as a Staff Sergeant Major.

He resigned from the Militia on 11th January 1915 and went on to the Permanent Army Instructional Staff. He resigned from the Army for the last time on 1st August 1919. Stephen died at Capalaba, Brisbane on 16th September 1935 aged 58 years. Nellie died at Paddington, Brisbane on 20th September 1966 aged 83 years. They were both cremated and their ashes are buried in the family grave at Bulimba cemetery, East Brisbane.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.8.1.1  ~~  Ivy Ellen Vincent

Ivy was born at 27 Elham Road, Lee on 20th April 1905 (Lewisham 1905 June qtr Volume 1d Page 1102). Ivy started school at Lee in 1910 but she emigrated to Australia with her family in 1911. Ivy married Claude Malcolm Bate on 16th June 1928. The couple lived firstly at Maleny and then Nambour, Buderim and then to Manly in Brisbane.

Claude and Ivy had at least four children – William, John, Richard and Edmund. Claude died on 28th February 1969 aged 68 years. Ivy died on 28th September 1988 aged 83 years.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.8.1.2  ~~  Violet Alice Vincent

Violet was born at 27 Elham Road, Lee on 2nd September 1906 (Lewisham 1906 December qtr Volume 1d page 1087). Violet started school at Lee in 1910 but she emigrated to Australia with her family in 1911.

Violet married Henry Edward Benson at Buderim Mountain on 6th July 1929; he was born at Buderim and he was a Policeman there. Henry was transferred to Longreach in western Queensland where their only child was born. Four years later the couple separated and later divorced.

Violet and her daughter lived with her parents until her father’s death in 1935. She then worked for Queensland Railways become manageress of dining cars and then manageress of Reid River Refreshment Rooms near Townsville during the war. When Violet left the railways she and her daughter went to Brisbane to live with her mother. She had a son there in 1943.

Violet married Goetz Ulrick Berge on 12th April 1952. He was a conductor on the trams. Violet and Gus divorced in 1978.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.8.1.3  ~~  Geoffrey Stephen Vincent

Geoffrey was born at Polsted Manor, Compton on 25th December 1910 (Guildford 1911 March qtr Volume 2a Page 112). He emigrated to Australia with his family later the same year. Geoffrey served in the Australian Army during World War II.

Geoffrey married Mabel Una Ings on 16th June 1959 and they had one child – Wayne.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.8.1.4  ~~  Dorothy May Vincent

Dorothy was born at Stephen’s Road, South Brisbane on 12th October 1912. Dorothy married Ernest Lindsay Hardgrave and they had six children.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.8.1.5  ~~  Catherine Elizabeth Vincent

Catherine was born at Manly on 3rd September 1914. Catherine married George Pearcy in Brisbane on 3rd October 1933; he was born at Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1911and he emigrated to Australia in the 1920’s. George had a farm at Buderim but this was sold and he moved his family to Chermside in Brisbane.

George and Catherine had at least four children – Alfred, David, Barbara and William. George was a truck driver in the Australian Army in New Guinea during the World War II and after the war he worked as a driver and mechanic.

Catherine died on 30th June 1952 aged only 37 years. George died on 30th November 1965 aged 54 years.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.8.1.6  ~~  Lewis James Vincent

Lewis was born at Manly on 15th April 1917. Her served in the Royal Australian Air Force in World War II. Lewis married Eileen Myrtle May Stocks on 20th August 1938. James and Eileen had two sons.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.8.1.7  ~~  Frank Vincent

Frank was born at Brisbane on 7th July 1920. Frank served in the Australian Army during World War II. He never married and lived with his mother at Brisbane until her death in 1978. Frank worked as a tram driver. He died at Brisbane on 20th January 1979 aged 58 years.

James was born at Eridge Road, Tunbridge Wells on 1st February 1885 (Tonbridge 1885 March qtr Volume 2a Page 703). The 1891 census records that the school boy was living with his family at 1 Eridge Road, Speldhurst. The 1901 census records that James was an assistant in a draper’s shop and he was boarding with James and Rose Sharp at 14 Princes Road, Brighton.

James married Edith Mary Gold at St Bartholomew’s church, Brighton on 17th November 1906 (Brighton 1906 December qtr Volume 2b page 467).

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.8.3  ~~  Alice Allcorn

Alice was born at Eridge Road, Tunbridge Wells on 30th November 1889 (Tonbridge 1890 March qtr Volume 2a Page 679). The 1891 census records that the young girl was living with her family at 1 Eridge Road, Speldhurst.

The 1901 census records that the school girl was living with her family at Hoyle Lane, Heyshott. Alice emigrated to Australia with her parents in 1912. She married Leslie Ward-Swiker but the couple had no children and the marriage failed.

Alice went blind and she died at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Annerley in Brisbane on 1st August 1973 aged 83 years. She was buried in the family grave at Bulimba cemetery, East Brisbane.

James was born at Leach Pit, Eridge Green on 8th January 1861 (Uckfield 1861 March qtr Volume 2b Page 88). The 1861 census records that the 3 month old infant was living with his family at Leechpit, Rotherfield. The 1871 census records that the school boy was living with his family in a cottage near the Park Corner Inn, Rotherfield.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.7.10  ~~  Frederick Allcorn

Frederick was born at Leach Pit, Eridge Green on 10th May 1863 and he was baptised at Eridge Green on 14th June 1863. Frederick died in January 1864 aged only 8 months (Uckfield 1864 March qtr Volume 2b Page 66) and he was buried at Eridge Green on 28th January 1864.

Herbert was born at Leach Pit, Eridge Green on 12th October 1865 (Uckfield 1865 December qtr Volume 2b Page 89). Herbert died in March 1866 aged only 4 months (Uckfield 1866 March qtr Volume 2b Page 68).

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.8  ~~  Obediah Allcorn

Obediah (known usually as Obed) was born at Rotherfield on 6th October 1818 and he was baptised at St Denys’ church, Rotherfield on 29th November 1818. The 1841 census records that Obed was an agricultural labourer and he was living with his parents at Scrags Brow, Rotherfield.

Obed married Annie Groombridge in 1843 (Tonbridge 1843 December qtr Volume 2a Page 716); she was born at Speldhurst in 1824. Obed and Annie had at least seven children – Emily (1845), William (1848), Augusta (1850), Ann (1853), Herbert (1855), Elizabeth (1859) and Charles (1863). The 1851 census records that Obed was a farmer and he and his wife and their three young children were living at Down Lane, Tunbridge Wells.

The 1861 census records that Obed was an agricultural labourer and he and his wife and their six children were living at Brightridge Lane, Tonbridge. The 1871 census records that Obed was a labourer and Ann was a laundress. The couple, their five children, a son in law and two grandsons were still living at Brightridge Lane, Tonbridge.

The 1881 census records that Obed was still an agricultural labourer and Ann was a laundress. The couple and three of their children were living at 4 Speldhurst Road, Tonbridge. The 1891 census records that Obed was a gardener’s labourer and he and his wife, their unmarried son Herbert and their grandson Walter Gibbons were living at 7 Speldhurst Road, Tunbridge Wells.

1.8.3.2.3.1.5.3.8.1  ~~  Emily Jane Allcorn

Emily was born at Tunbridge Wells in 1845 (Tonbridge 1845 June qtr Volume 5 Page 526). The 1851 census records that the school girl was living with her family at Down Lane, Tunbridge Wells. The 1861 census records that Emily was living with her parents at Brightridge Lane, Tonbridge.

Emily married Jesse Gibbons in 1868 (Tonbridge 1868 December qtr Volume 2a Page 849); he was born at Dover in 1846, the son of Jesse (a baker and confectioner of Dover) and Elizabeth Gibbons. Jesse junior and Emily had at least twelve children – Jesse (1869), Walter (1870), Annie (1872), Ernest (1874), Herbert (1876), Vincent (1877), Mabel (1880), William (1882), Charles (1883), Albert (1886), Elizabeth (1888) and Frederick (1892).

The 1871 census records that Jesse was a plasterer and her and his wife and their two young sons were living with his parents in law at Brightridge Lane, Tonbridge. The 1881 census records that Emily and their six young children were living at 35 Taylor Street, Tonbridge. Meanwhile Jesse, who was still a plasterer, and their son Walter were staying with his elderly parents at 62 East Cliff, Dover.

The 1891 census records that Jesse and Emily were separated again and it seems likely that Jesse was an itinerant worker. Emily and eight of their children were living at 64 Taylor Street, Tonbridge. Jesse and their son Ernest, who were both plasterers, were living in one room at 1 Chamberlain Terrace, Eastbourne.

The 1901 census records that Jesse was still a plasterer and he and his wife, eight of their children and a boarder (William Fry who would later marry their daughter Annie) were living at 403 Seaside, Eastbourne.

Jesse was born at Southborough near Tunbridge Wells in 1869 (Tonbridge 1869 December qtr Volume 2a Page 526). The 1871 census records that the young boy was living with his extended family at Brightridge Lane, Tonbridge.

The 1881 census records that the school boy was living with his growing family at 35 Taylor Street, Tonbridge. The 1891 census records that Jesse was a plasterer and he was living with his mother at 64 Taylor Street, Tinbridge.

Jesse married Catherine Ross in 1894 (Eastbourne 1894 September qtr Volume 2b Page 141); she was born at Tunbridge Wells in 1871. Jesse and Catherine had at least three children – Jesse (1895), Edith (1897) and Vincent (1899).

The 1901 census records that Jesse was a plasterer and he and his wife and their two surviving children were living at 177 Latimer Street, Eastbourne. Jesse’s younger brother Ernest and his family were living next door at # 179.

The 1881 census records that the school boy and his father were staying with his paternal grandparents at East Cliff, Dover.

The 1891 census records that Walter was an apprenticed coach painter and he was living with his maternal grandparents at 7 Speldhurst Road, Tunbridge Wells. Walter married Harriett Lucy Hills in 1897 (Hastings 1897 September qtr Volume 2b Page 75); she was born at Pett near Hastings in 1872. Walter and Harriett had at least two children – Mabel (1898) and Annie (1900).

The 1901 census records that Walter was a coach painter and he was living with his wife and their two daughters at 47 Beach Road, Eastbourne.

Annie married William Thomas Fry in 1902 (Eastbourne 1902 September qtr Volume 2b Page 144); he was born at Tonbridge in 1874 and in 1901 he was a plasterer and he was boarding with Annie’s family.

Frederick was born at Southborough in 1892 (Tonbridge 1892 September qtr Volume 2b Page 685). This boy was unfortunately mentally handicapped. The 1901 census records that Frederick was ‘feeble’ and he was living with his family at 403 Seaside, Eastbourne.
